At just 18 years old, Julia has already built a remarkable artistic portfolio. From ceramics to digital design, printmaking to collage, her creative talents span a wide range of styles and media. For Julia, art is more than a hobby. As she says, “It’s not just a fun thing I do; it’s part of who I am.”

Julia also uses her art to raise awareness for causes close to her heart. Recently, she’s been sharpening her public speaking skills with the goal of becoming a motivational speaker. Alongside preparing to graduate high school this spring, she’s achieved all this while managing life in and out of the hospital.

Through every twist and turn, Snow City Arts has been by her side.

Music Man by Julia, age 16

Every day, Snow City Arts’ Teaching Artists visit pediatric hospital rooms across Chicago, knocking on doors and asking a simple but powerful question: “Would you like to make art today?” For children like Julia, this opens up a world of possibilities.

When Julia brought a sketch to a Snow City Arts workshop and shared her dream of turning it into a t-shirt, her Teaching Artist, Kat, didn’t just help her complete the project. Kat introduced her to digital design, teaching her everything from the design process to working with vector files. After many hours of effort, Julia’s dream became a reality: her t-shirt was printed and sold in the hospital Gift Shop.

Julia’s story is just one of many. Every year, Snow City Arts helps hundreds of young patients like her discover their inner artist during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

Julia recently shared what Snow City Arts means to her:

“When you contribute to Snow City Arts, you’re literally bringing color and hope into a room that was once solely sterile and bleak. That’s truly a priceless gift.”

This transformation is only possible thanks to the generosity of supporters like you. Your donation helps turn hospital rooms into stages, studios, and galleries where children can paint, write poetry, make movies, and more.

Beyond art, students working with Snow City Arts can earn school credit, ensuring they don’t fall behind while receiving medical care — all at no cost to their families.

As we close out the year, we’re asking for your support to continue our mission. Your gift can help Snow City Arts reach more children like Julia and transform hospital stays into opportunities for growth, joy, and self-expression.

Together, we can bring the gift of creativity and hope to young patients across Chicago.
