All of us at Snow City Arts are sad to share that we have recently lost an important member of our family. Katie Kurcz, a founding co-chair of our Auxiliary Board, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, after a long battle with cancer. Her contributions and dedication to our organization have had a profound impact on the success we share today.
Co-founded by Katie and Debbie Smith in 2011, the Auxiliary Board at Snow City Arts has raised nearly $500,000 in its short history. So much of the success of this Board can be traced directly to the energy, passion, and boundless spirit of Katie. Her establishment of Team Snow City Arts, our annual fundraising run, has generated tens of thousands of dollars and has brought awareness of our mission to hundreds of new people. No matter the initiative, Katie always set audacious public goals and was always working toward a “secret stretch goal.” She was dedicated to considering new ideas, improving upon previous successes, and broadening teams to welcome new members. Katie was a shining star who inspired and still inspires everyone around her to do more.
It is impossible to measure the number of lives she touched in her time with Snow City Arts. She never rested in finding new ways to engage people, spread the word of our mission, or simply share her warmth and enthusiasm with everyone around her.
Our deepest sympathies are with her family during this time of grief. In the coming months, we hope to pay tribute to Katie’s memory in a more formal way. If you would like to share any memories of Katie, please email them to us, and we will share them with her family.
