On September 16, 2022, Snow City Arts hosted hundreds of guests from Chicago’s philanthropic, medical, corporate, and artistic communities at Gallery Night 2022: In the Long Grass, the first in-person Gallery Night in two years!
Chicago’s Venue West was transformed into the Snow City Arts students’ gallery, where 78 works of art in a variety of mediums by 57 students were prominently displayed throughout the space. 3D-printed recreations of students’ sculptures were displayed as table centerpieces, Teaching Artists read student poetry aloud, and the Snow City Arts band entertained the crowd with student-composed pieces.
Through our partnership with the Chicago Cultural Accessibility Consortium (CCAC), we were able to host a superb ASL interpreter and offer live closed captions at Gallery Night. Big thanks to CCAC for helping us uphold our core value of inclusion through accessibility.
This year’s Gallery Night honored the Child Life specialists who work with Snow City Arts at our partner hospitals, Rebecca Meyers from the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Shira Miller from Rush University Children’s Hospital, and Dana Thornquist from Children’s Hospital University of Illinois at Chicago. We are so grateful for their advocacy and partnership.
Through the generosity of our sponsors, ticketed attendees, auction donors and bidders, art buyers, donors, and pro-bono partners, Snow City raised an amazing $122,072 to continue fueling SCA’s virtual learning programs and granting the transformative gift of arts education to hundreds of students annually across four Chicagoland hospitals.
Thank you all for your incredible support! We are thrilled to highlight student voices and works in pursuit of our mission to inspire and educate children and youth in hospitals through the arts.
