A long overdue introduction to Snow City Arts’ new Program Manager, Chinyere “Chi” Achebe!

Chi joined Snow City Arts in February, 2020, shortly before we became a distributed office team and the entire team dove into creating and launching our Virtual Learning platform. Chi comes to this new role at Snow City Arts with a wide array of experiences and skills as an educator, spiritual advisor, reiki practitioner, singer, poet, artist, and curator .  Chi believes art is a pathway to community building and self-awareness, and has focused her work on serving marginalized communities while strengthening art alliances. In addition to supporting the work of the Program Director, Veronica Stein, and our 10 teaching artists, Chi will be the organization’s champion in building new alliances and partnerships, including with Chicago Public Schools, in and beyond the hospital setting where we meet our core students.  She will identify and develop opportunities for exhibitions and events in neighborhoods where our students reside, as well as leading our soon to be launched Youth Leadership Council.

Past positions include serving as Program Coordinator for the House of Blues’ Music Forward Foundation; Director of Operations and Programming for Art Devour Gallery; Reiki practitioner for the Black Youth Project Healing & Safety Council; and as Digital Media Specialist for BlackDoctor.org. Chi has served as an Artist Curator, as well as Outreach and Engagement Cultivator, for the SWARM Artist Residency; sits on the Junior Board of the Africa International House (African Festival of Arts); and has presented workshops and facilitated speaking engagements for multiple organizations ranging in size and scope.  She is a recipient of a grant from Grinnell College.

Chi is currently working towards her 200 hour yoga teacher training certificate.
